The Fistula Research Unit at St. Mark’s Hospital
The Fistula Research Unit at St. Mark’s Hospital is headed by Professor Ailsa Hart and Mr Phil Tozer. The centre has a strong history of championing research in the field of perianal Crohn’s Disease and progressing the medical and surgical management of perianal fistula. The hospital is actively engaged in clinical trials exploring the treatment and outcomes of perianal Crohn’s Disease patients. It is also leading a number of clinical research projects aiming to better understand the condition, the impact of fistulae on patients, and the day-to-day management of patients suffering from this disease.
The unit is collaborating with Professor Nicholas Powell’s team, at Imperial College London, to explore the immunological processes underlying fistula formation in Crohn’s Disease. In this collaboration, we are engaging in cutting-edge translation research with the hope of one day improving medical therapies for perianal Crohn’s Disease patients
