Dr. Siyan “Stewart” Cao
About
Dr. Cao joined the faculty of Division of Gastroenterology at Washington University in July 2022. Dr. Cao was born in Chengdu in Southwestern China. After attending college at Zhejiang University, China, Dr. Cao entered the PhD program in Biochemistry at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He then moved to New York where he obtained MD at Columbia University. Afterwards, he completed his residency in internal medicine at the UC San Francisco and gastroenterology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Cao’s main research interests are in mucosal immunity, biomarker discovery, and novel therapies in inflammatory bowel disease, including perianal and fibrostenotic CD. Dr. Cao is on external committees including the CCF National Scientific Advisory Committee, the AGA Research Awards Panel, and the International Congress of Mucosal Immunology Scientific Advisory Committee. He is Chair of Digestive Disease Week Abstract Review Group. He also serves as Associate Editor for Inflammation and is on the Editorial Board of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. Dr. Cao has received multiple awards including the American Society for Clinical Investigation Young Physician-Scientist Award, the Southern Society of Clinical Investigation Young Faculty Research Award, and the CCF Lloyd Mayer Career Development Award.
